Kartikeya V. Sarabhai is one of India’s most distinguished environmental educators and a globally recognized advocate for Education for Sustainable Development. He is the Founder Director of the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), established in 1984 as a Centre of Excellence supported by the Government of India. Over the past four decades, he has played a pioneering role in integrating environmental education into formal and non-formal learning systems in India and beyond.
A recipient of the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, Mr. Sarabhai has contributed extensively to international environmental and sustainability initiatives through organizations such as UNESCO, IUCN, and Earth Charter International. He was instrumental in establishing the South and Southeast Asia Network for Environmental Education (SASEANEE), creating a platform that fosters regional collaboration, innovation, and capacity building in environmental education and sustainability. His lifelong commitment continues to inspire educators, institutions, and young environmental leaders across the region.
