5th ICSE 2023 - United Towards Sustainability: Launch of SASEANEE Connect

The South and Southeast Asia Network for Environmental Education (SASEANEE Connect) was relaunched at the International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE) 2023 in New Delhi as a regional collaborative platform to advance environmental literacy, sustainability skills, and climate action across South and Southeast Asia. Building upon its original establishment in 1993, the renewed network seeks to bring together governments, educational institutions, civil society organisations, youth leaders, researchers, and practitioners to foster collective action for a more sustainable future.

SASEANEE Connect was established through partnerships among leading global organisations, including the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), Mobius Foundation, Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP), Earth Charter, and the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (CEC). The initiative aims to strengthen regional cooperation, encourage innovation, promote environmental education, and create opportunities for knowledge exchange across borders.

Discussions during the launch highlighted the urgent need to scale environmental education efforts, empower youth leadership, integrate Indigenous and local knowledge systems, strengthen climate communication, and build inclusive communities that can respond effectively to environmental challenges. Experts from across the globe emphasized that collaboration, diversity, and shared learning will be central to creating transformative and lasting change in the region.
