Regional Youth Dialogue on “Community Action in Conservation”

The Regional Youth Dialogue on “Community Action in Conservation” was organized by SASEANEE Connect as an online platform to showcase and celebrate youth-led conservation initiatives across South and Southeast Asia. Held on 8 April 2026 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM IST via Zoom, the dialogue brought together emerging environmental leaders, practitioners, educators, and young conservation advocates from across the region.


The session highlighted the critical role of community engagement in biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable environmental stewardship. Participants had the opportunity to learn from inspiring young changemakers who are leading and supporting impactful conservation efforts within their respective communities.


The dialogue featured Manisha Meem Nipun, Co-Founder of the Pathchola Foundation and a NAAEE 30 Under 30 honouree from Bangladesh, who shared her experiences in mobilizing communities for environmental action and youth engagement. Mark Liao Jun, Founder of Sarawak Eco Warriors and NAAEE 30 Under 30 honouree from Malaysia, discussed grassroots conservation initiatives and the importance of empowering local communities to become environmental stewards. Representing India, Dr. Bhagyashree Kesherwani, Program Associate at the Mobius Foundation, highlighted community-based approaches to conservation education and sustainable development.


The session was moderated by Susmita Chanda, Programme Coordinator, SASEANEE Connect, Centre for Environment Education (CEE), who facilitated an engaging discussion on the opportunities and challenges associated with community-driven conservation efforts. The dialogue encouraged participants to explore innovative approaches to conservation, strengthen regional collaboration, and recognize the transformative role of youth leadership in addressing environmental challenges.


The programme served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and cross-cultural learning, inspiring participants to actively contribute towards conservation efforts and sustainable environmental futures within their communities.
