SASEANEE for Planetary Well being

SASEANEE for Planetary Well being

The SASEANEE team, Centre for Environment Education (CEE) co-hosted the launch of “Envisioning and Evaluating Our Contributions to Planetary Well-Being through the Lens of the Earth Charter” with Earth Charter International on 27 November 2025 at the India International Centre, New Delhi.

The launch was honored by the presence of Hon’ble Justice Jasmeet Singh, High Court of Delhi, as Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the growing importance of environmental ethics and the judiciary’s role in strengthening frameworks that protect both people and the planet.

A rich and engaging dialogue followed, featuring a panel of distinguished speakers:

  1. Dr. Vasanti Rao, policy researcher and social development specialist
  2. Mr. Kartikeya Sarabhai, Founder and Director, Centre for Environment Education
  3. Dr. Livleen Kahlon, Senior Fellow & Associate Director, TERI

The discussion was further enriched by contributions from Ms. Sunita Narain, Director General, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), and Mr. Rajesh Aggarwal, Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India.

Together, the speakers reflected on how the principles of the Earth Charter—respect and care for the community of life, ecological integrity, social and economic justice, and democracy, nonviolence, and peace—can inform the governance of planetary well-being in India. The conversation highlighted the need for ethical decision-making, education for sustainability, community participation, and strengthened legal commitments to environmental protection.

As the first dialogue of its kind in Delhi to bring the Earth Charter into direct conversation with India’s legal and governance sectors, the event opened meaningful pathways for collaboration. A set of recommendations emerging from the dialogue will be shared with relevant ministries and institutions, encouraging the integration of planetary well-being considerations into national policies and public consciousness.
