Seventy five years of experience
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a global membership union that brings together governments, civil society organisations, Indigenous peoples' organisations, research institutions, and experts from around the world to address pressing environmental challenges. Established in 1948 and headquartered in Gland, IUCN is one of the world's largest and most influential environmental networks, working to conserve biodiversity and promote the sustainable use of natural resources. It provides a unique platform for collaboration among policymakers, scientists, local communities, and organisations to develop practical, science-based solutions for environmental conservation and sustainable development.
IUCN works across key areas such as biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, ecosystem restoration, protected area management, and environmental governance. It is widely recognised for developing the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the world's most comprehensive inventory of the conservation status of species. Through its global partnerships and evidence-based approach, IUCN supports international environmental agreements and advances a vision of a just world that values and conserves nature while ensuring that economic development and human well-being are achieved in harmony with the environment.
